Terrific Technology

This term we have been doing technology we will do this for the rest of the year.Our school from year 7 - 8 go to Linwood collage every Monday.There are 4 subjects for year 7 and 4 for year 8.The 4 subjects for year 7 are Wood works,Cooking,Plastics and Sowing.The 4 subjects for year 8 are Metal,Cooking,Sowing and Electronics.This term I am doing Plastics so far we have made die and key chain our big project for this term is making a stand for an electronic.

Super Swimming lessons

Over the past two weeks our school has been going to QE2 for swimming lessons.We did actual swimming lessons for the first seven days then for the last three days we did water safety.On the first day of water safety we used life jackets and learned how to do a chain,the train and a huddle.We went with our buddy's so we could help them if they needed it.On the second day of water safety we learned about what to do if you get in trouble on a boat.On the last day of water safety we got to wear our PJ's to the swimming pool so they would act like clothes in cause we fell in off a boat.

Brilliant Biography.

This week we have been working on Biography.We had a rubric we had to follow,some of the things on the rubric were what websites we used,vocabulary and punctuation.We could choose to do the biography on anyone we wanted,I choose to do my biography on Princess Diana.  

Here is the introduction paragraph of my biogrphy

Princess Diana was born on the 1st of July 1961.She was born Diana Spencer but later on she became Lady Diana Spencer,after her father inherited the role of Earl Spencer in 1975.She married into the throne on the 29th of July 1981 to Charles Windsor.They had two sons named William and Henry also know as Harry.Charles and Diana later divorced in 1996.In 1997 a tragic accident happened that caused  Diana death.She is now remembered as the People's Princess as she a world wide inspiration and is magerly popular.

Spectacular Swimming Sports 🏊

On Friday the 15 of Feb we did Swimming Sports. We had to compete in 2 or more different strokes,the choices were whits 25m and 50m.I competed in 50m breaststroke, backstroke and freestyle.I got 2nd in freestyle and 1st in backstroke and breaststroke.We also did a house colour relay for the year 7/8,I am in blue house and we got first.I am really excited to go to the North Zone swimming sports in a couple of weeks.

Welcome back,This week we have started getting back in the swing of this with new routines and new classes.In the kaupeka hub we have been focusing on greatness and what greatness looks like as it is our PBL driving question.One of the tasks we had to complete was a place mat,our place mats had five different sections on it four are people we think are great and the circle in the middle is what they have in common.

Marvelous Market day Reflection

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths

Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance M&Ms for the team. We were much better at the first challenge because we had more of a clear idea in what we were doing.

Market Day Design

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made 45 stress balls out of water and flour.



Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was: we sold out in the first hour.
Next time I would make more stress balls now we know they are popular but I would keep with the same product as it sold out very fast.

Hello and welcome back.This term we have been using a STEAM approach to make a marketable product for our Market day in week 8.In my group I have Sienna and Aiden we decided to do a stress ball race.

What does STEAM mean
S Stands for Science
T Stands for Technology
E Stands for Engineering
A Stands for The Arts
And M Stands for Mathematics 

What is a Stress ball race?
It is like a egg and spoon race but instead of eggs we are using stress ball ,some have flour in them and some have water.If you win first place you get a Stress ball and a freddo frog.Second place gets a stress ball and third place gets a freddo frog.

We had make an advertisement and this is what we came up with.

Come and join our stress ball race
It is sure to put a smile on your face
If you run at a good pace
You might win first place

To ace the race you need to keep it on your spoon
If you keep it on your spoon you will have a good afternoon
If you get to the end without it falling off you will get a squishy balloon
A dollar a race is such a great deal son come to our stall you sure to have a ball.
