Marvelous Market day Reflection

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about design and the big question was; How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product?

First we learned what STEAM stood for.
S for Science
T for Technology
E for Engineering
A for the Arts
and M for Maths

Then we were given challenges. The first to make a chair using newspaper, string and straws that was able to hold a figure made out of multi-link blocks.
Then; make a table that was able to balance M&Ms for the team. We were much better at the first challenge because we had more of a clear idea in what we were doing.

Market Day Design

In Literacy we learned to write up science experiments and to write a technology report using the design process of ask, imagine, plan, create, improve and share.

Our next step was to form teams and ask ourselves the big question again.
How can we use a Steam approach to make a marketable product? Our aim was to create enough products or experiences and sell it to raise money for charity.

My team made 45 stress balls out of water and flour.

Reflection

My highlight from this PBL was: we sold out in the first hour.
Next time I would make more stress balls now we know they are popular but I would keep with the same product as it sold out very fast.
Have you ever made something for a market

Super Stress Ball Race

Super Stress Ball Race

Hello and welcome back. This term we have been using a STEAM approach to make a marketable product for our Market day in week 8.In my group I have Sienna and Aiden we decided to do a stress ball race.

What does STEAM mean
S Stands for Science
T Stands for Technology
E Stands for Engineering
A Stands for The Arts
And M Stands for Mathematics

What is a Stress ball race?
It is like a egg and spoon race but instead of eggs we are using stress ball ,some have flour in them and some have water. If you win first place you get a Stress ball and a freddo frog.Second place gets a stress ball and third place gets a freddo frog.

We had make an advertisement and this is what we came up with.

Come and join our stress ball race
It is sure to put a smile on your face
If you run at a good pace
You might win first place

To ace the race you need to keep it on your spoon
If you keep it on your spoon you will have a good afternoon
If you get to the end without it falling off you will get a squishy balloon
A dollar a race is such a great deal son come to our stall you sure to have a ball.

Have you ever made something for a market.

Perfect PBL

This term our Project Based Learning (PBL) has been about cultural stories and the big question was;
What is the significance in the 21st Century of our Cultural stories?

First we brainstormed what culture is and came up with lots of ideas. Culture is Stories,Holidays and where you are from.
Then we thought about our own culture and talked to our parents about our traditions and heritage. I wrote a post about my family and things we like to do.
In Literacy we read and discussed myths and legends from around the world then we concentrated on Maori legends. I read How Maui Slowed The Sun,Hatupatu And The Bird Women and Maui And The Giant Fish.I retold the legend of The Battle Of The Mountains.

We made a performance about the story Battle of the Mountains. Some students wrote the script, some students took on the job of making all the artwork, some worked hard on organising the music and others took on the role of bringing the story alive with dance and drama.

Reflection:
For our production I contributed by making the backdrop.I think the show might impact on others by knowing a new legend it may help them in their learning. What I learned about working with others was everyone has their own style in learning which helps with getting lots of ideas.

Rad reainding response

In reading this week we read an article from Kiwi kids News about Fortnite. We had to identify key words from the text and combine these keywords with prior knowledge to help with understanding of the text. This is my reading response :

Everlasting Eruption

This term we have been focusing on the Maori leagand the, Battle Of The Mountains. So in reading we tried to focus on this story. Our follow up was to make repose or project on this.My friend Harriet and I worked on making an erupting volcano that was inspired by the mighty mountain Tongariro, this took us about 3 days to finsh. The first day we worked on making  the volcano shape,The second day we painted it and the last day we made it erupted.

To make it erupted we use about 1 cup of viniger and used 5 tablespoons of baking soda.
This is a screencastify showing the eruption,I hope you enjoy.
Have you ever made an erupting volcano?
