Future Writing

Over the past two weeks we have been working on narratives about the future. We had to pick and ethical issue that we previously learned about. The issue had to be relevant in the world, we had to write about the problem and make believe a way to fix it. My problem was about global warming and how the world is slowly getting distorted for future generations. As you may have seen last week I posted the plan for this piece
Here is the final draft product - Writing
(Please mind that this is a draft and will not be perfect)

Cyber Smart

Today I am going to give you some tips om blog commenting.I have five points for the video we watch

1. Compliment the writers work
It is a good thing when you comment to give the something good about there work so they can continue to do that .

2.Add something that could help them or make it better
Make sure to give them some constructive help but when your saying this don't be rude about as people put a lot of effort into their blog.

3. Make connections
If you have done something to do with their blog tell them. If your experience was the same or different or how you feel on the topic

4.Answer their question
If they have a question don't leave them hanging they want feed back so reply it will help them.

5.Make sure your comment is readable
Don't just write the comment make sure you can read.Say it out loud to your self dose it make sense

Reading !!!

This week my reading goal was...
Independently predict, interpret and analyse text, 'reading between the lines' to gain a deeper meaning. We have started reading chapter books, we had to pick from ones the teachers supplied for us.For our task to show our understating we had to right predictions about the first chapter, title and front cover.

What do you think the book is about
This is my work -

  • Though Thick and Thin Predictions I think the book will be about two boys going though a hard time together and loses a bike.Because of the title and pictures.
  •  How the title relates - The title is “though thick and thin is can also mean hard times and good times
  • How the pictures relate - The picture is of two boys and a bike
  • “ you can’t order the weather I think the author is trying to tell me that you can’t pick how the weather is going to be,I get this from order the weather
  • “Hands shading her eyes”I think the author is trying to tell me that it was very bright out side,I get this form shading your eyes you usually shade your eyes when it is bright
  • “His mouth dropped at the news”I think the author is trying to tell me that he was socked and didn’t know how to feel.I get this form he dropped his mouth. People genuinely drop their mouths on shock.

Math's Course at Stanford

At our school we are did a Stanford university math course. This was to help break the bad stereotype math has each lesson there was 3-4 videos to watch then there was also question you had to answer thought the lesson. We did this for 25 - 30 minutes every Monday. At the end of every lesson we had to write a couple of sentences  covering the whole lesson and what we learned.

Task one - Write down the main messages you learned in lesson 1 for someone of your age. What are 3 important things you learned today that everyone your age should know?

There lots of things you can do to help your maths like building with  Lego, playing board games and some computer games. Math isn't all about numbers and equations it is about finding that struggle to help you with the rest of your learning. In maths we need to have a growth mindset.

Task two - What are some important things you learned today that everyone your age should know?

That you need to pick challenges that help you  with your learning. You should never call someone smart as it puts a stereotype on them, and they won't want to challenge themselves. When you phase someone for having a growth mindset and giving the question ago.

Task three - What are some important things you learned today about mistakes, struggle, and speed that everyone your age should know?

In maths we need to make sure we struggle as it helps our brain grow. You do not need to be fast at maths to be good at maths, most of the best mathematicians are slow.If you think slowly it gives to time to get deep into the ques ton so you can understand it properly.

Task four -  Write about some of these important ideas for someone of your own age. In a paragraph explain to them why these ideas are important for their learning.

Sometimes math isn't about using all the rules. Math is not just rules and strategy. It can be changed to suit you.You can make it to help your learning.Your learning style might be different to your friend or siblings. To make your maths better you need to talk to someone you are not expected to just do it by yourself.

Task five -  In this session we have talked about making sense, drawing and representing, using intuition, and looking for the big idea.

You need to make sure to not over think and confuse your self. Sometimes you need to take it back to basic and use visual. Don't be afraid to use them they can really help your learning.Look for the big idea it is important you have a clear understanding of the big idea. You do not need to mesmerise every single strategy you just have to know the key ideas.

Task six -
Task six we just recapped on all the important things about maths like
- Anyone can achieve high levels in math
-The brain grows from experience
- Stereotypes like ink and blue isles are bad for maths
- A growth mindset  is a belief that you can get smarter with hard work (This is a big thing with success)
- Mistakes math your brain grow
- Being good at maths does not mean being fast it is better to think more deeply then fast
- Number flexibility is important and valuable
- Talking about math is helpful and important
- Math is a connected subject and is important to make mathematical connections
- Intuition is important in maths
- It is helpful to represent math visually and well as physical objects
-  It is important to focus on the big idea in maths
- Math is about pattern finding
- Math is everywhere in nature
- Math is everywhere in sport
- Math in the real world is about connections,Drawing,Reasoning and applying ideas not formulas
- Good apps and games teach math conceptually and visually
