Reading Create

This week I had to write a poem inferring people on a topic that was a new begging for me.We were not aloud to say what the poem was about so we had to use show not tell.

This is my poem, Can you guess what my poem was about?

As I open the gate, the new year begins
As I shut the gate, the holidays end.

Kids run in and  rushed away
Kids walk by with a smile on there face.

With the end of Summer closing in
Uniforms flow in the wind

Uniforms flow over the new kids
As the smell of new books and pens fill the air

I smile as my friends say hi
But butterflys arrive when I step inside

The Summer ended with a new year to happen
But what is to happen is not yet known.

As the bell rings it is time for me to go
With alot of time to grow as I learn and show

Tough Kids

This blog is about Tough kids.Last week in week 6, the students that wanted to form Paiaka 3/4 and tumu 5/6 and all the kaupeka 7/8.We went to south Brighton and did tough kids.Tough kid is an obstacle coarse with 17 obstacles and a 2.73 km race. Some of the obstacles were climbing ropes, running over bridges, running through water and though mud. There was a total of 5000 students that ran the race. The race on Wednesday (the race I ran) there was 2000 people we ran in wave of our school so it wasn't to squishy. The first obstacles was running and then it was tires, then we went through a blow up inflatable.Next we went though the rope maze that lead us out to the mud an water. For the water we just had to run in open water. At the end of the race we got to go on a big slip and slide( This was my favourite part) then we got hosed down by the fire brigade.

Have you done though kids?

Sport :)

These past weeks we have been doing sport rotations on Thursday afternoon. The rotations we have been doing are Koftball,Lawn Bowls,Cricket and Softball. Here is my description on what we have done.

Koftball:Koftball is a sport that is played in Norway and it is a mash up of Netball and Basketball. At the start you get split into teams and you could do whatever with the ball and could go anywhere on the court. Gradually the coach added more and more rules until we were playing the real game.

Cricket: Was just the normal cricket you play. But we got into two teams fielding and batting.

Softball: For the batting we used the softball bat and hit the ball off the T stand as far as we could. For fielding we used the glove and had to try and catch the ball

Lawn bowls: I have not done lawn bowls get so I will update this when I have

Have you ever played one of these sports before?

Reading create

This week I am going to share my reading create.I did the same goal as last week witch is Make connections between other texts and general knowledge to expand meaning and pose questions, using more sophisticated texts. I had to pick out of reading eight articles they were Holi, Christmas in Columbia, A traditional Irish Sport, Scotland, Hanukkhah Saint Andrews Day,Thanksgiving, The kilt  Holi. I choose to read  Thanksgiving. We had to reflect on this by answering  some questions -

This is my work -

Attitude

Over the past week we meet some people from attitude they came in and were talking about puberty. They also talked about relationships and how our feelings are changing.A fun facted that we learned is that you feet and hands are the first things in your body to grow.As we get older our friendships and relationships with our parents and friends can change.Since this is happening we can also get angry and handle this differently to what we normally would. We also did a few activity like we named all the changes that happened to boys and girls. We also watched a video on how the internet is not always what we think,we watched this video to know that we can not just compere ourselves to the people on the internet.

Have you had these people come to your school ?

Reading Create

This week I am going to share my reading create.I had to pick out of reading four articles they were HoliChristmas in ColumbiaA traditional Irish SportScotlandHanukkhah I choose to read  Christmas in Columbia. We had to reflect on this by answer some questions like -

What I already know about this topic - In Colombia Christmas is a big thing. It’s probably a lot different then here in New Zealand.

My new understanding - Christmas in Colombia is more about the religion  as in Colombia, 90% of the population is Christian. The Christmas period is one of the longest times to celebrate in the world. On the night of the first festival they usually light candles and lanterns in the streets and outside houses. The cities are also lit up by fireworks. Nine days before Christmas majority of families will meet up in prayer and have traditional  foods and sing songs.

New questions I have - What songs do they sing? What traditional  foods do they have? Why do they start nine days before? What traditions do they do

Answers to my questions -

Do you know the answers to my questions ?

Holiday Recount

Today I have a free choice blag so I decided to share a holiday recount, I made.I wrote about a sleepover I had with some of my friends.Just keep in mind this is a draft so there might be a few mistakes.

(PS I know it's late)
What did you do in the holidays
I hope you enjoy -

I jumped in the car and we drove around the corner to pick Maia up.As we arrived I unbuckled my seat bullet and wondered up to the door.I knocked and out she came, we hoped back into the car and went back to mine. When we arrived we made a plan of what we were going to do.Some of the tings were Watch/make tik tocs, get lollies for the night and make a  place to chill. We started to make some tik tocs while we waited for Ella. When Ella arrived we showed her the list. Then we started to talk and eventually we ended up braiding each other hair. When my mum got home we asked her if we could go and get some stuff from the supermarket and she said yes, only if we got my sister something.

We headed on our journey, down the road and crossed at the lights. When we got there we headed straight for the lollie isle and there was our destiny. We looked though almost every opinion there. We ended up leaving with some mentos packets for my sister and her friend, I called them a gold coin donation. For us we picked some sour patch kids and skittles,Ella then picked some chocolate,Maia got high chews and I choose licorice. We walked back though Marshlands/Prestants as we thought it would be faster, that was wrong. While we were walking we stopped at one of the parks and took some pictures with seagulls. When we got home we had to hide the lollies so we didn’t eat them.

We then planed our chill place, we started to build it on the tramp with sheets and pegs.We cleaned off some of the leaves that had fallen off then got the sheets and started pegging. Maia and Ella had to do this as I couldn’t reach, they called me the peg ladie. We found this a challenge and ended up putting my tent up.This was a task I laded it out and stated to up the poles in I struggled as Maia and Ella laughed at me.I finally got it up but then found out I did it wrong. This time with the help of Maia and Ella we got it up.We laid the inside with two duvets so it would be nice and comfortable. We sat in there and talk and went on our phones then talked so more.

While we were on our phones Ruby called and said Sienna happened  to be over and asked it we wanted to play together. We said yes and went down the road. When we got there Ruby and Sienna told up about the retirement village that had be left and we could go in it.We decided to go in it, Zach told us about the open door they found yesterday. We walked in the village and looked around we were all a bit scared but ensured each other it was fine.We found the door but did not dear to go inside. We left then Maia,Ella and I left we headed home to find dinner was ready,we had pizza and sundays for desert. Then headed back to the tent were we let Ruby and Sienna know we were ready if they wanted to got back put together.

When they were ready we meet again but this time we play last to leave the island and tried to see who could get the most waves. No one was leaving the island so we all went on the same one.The loser had to do a dear that the winner thought of, Ella was the loser and Ruby won. Ella pulled out of the dear so Ruby and I did our own one. We decided to ding dong ditch my neighbor, we tried to cheek no one was home we thought no one was home so we did it.I am not going to speak of what happened next.Sadly Sienna had to get dropped off so they left and we went back to mine.We grabbed the lollies,my chrome book and our phones so we could watch a movie.I was the lollie gard and made sure everyone got the same amount of lollies. When the movie finished we went back inside and got ready for bed. While we dozed off the sleep we talk and did would you rathers. That was when a great day had come to an end.

Camp

Week three the whole of 7/8 had the opportunity to Wainui YMCA  school camp. We spent three nights and four days.We had to write a reflection on camp with the questions on, Something I found challenging,My favourite part,Something I learnt and What I am grateful for.

This is my refection -

This is what I found challenging,I found the tramp to camp a challenge as I would not normally choose something like this. But since I could do this with my friends it was a lot of fun and they were all really encouraging.

Something I have learnt is you may have to look a little harder if you want to find something. I have taken this away from orienteering as some of the targets were harder to find then others.I have also learnt how to survive if I has to ever get lost in the forest. I learnt this from outdoor living as we learnt about plants that are safe to eat,How to make a fire and what is needed to build a shelter.I thought I'd add the girls shelter as the best.

Something I am grateful for is all the people that gave up their time to come so we could enjoy the camp.I am also grateful for the teachers that made us food so we could eat. Finally I am grateful for this opportunity as it was a great one and I have taken away a lot of memorises.

I have many favourite parts but one of my all time favourite part would have to be kayaking I enjoyed this as it reminded me of when I go to kaiteriteri and camp with my family, I also enjoyed being around the water as I am very comfortable around open sea water.Another one of my favourite parts would have top be coasteering because I liked climbing the rocks and swimming in the open water.

These are all of the activity's  we got to do -
- Kayaking
- Coasteering
- orienteering
- Search and Rescue
- High ropes
- Outdoor living
- archery
- breakout edu/ school led activity
- Raft building

Have you been on camp if so what was your favourite part ?

This is not my group but this is were we went kayaking
